"Anna's Song": Mark Nicholas
Luke Chapter 2 v 29-38
The final message in our Advent 2016 series "Songs of Joy, Songs of Deliverance".
For this final session in the series, we pick up from where we left last week as Mary and Joseph enter the temple with their newborn son. After hearing the prophetic song of Simeon, the family are joined by Anna, an old lady who spent most of her time at the temple, worshiping night and day with her fastings and prayers.
At the very time Simeon was praying, she showed up, broke into an anthem of praise to God, and talked about the child to all who were waiting expectantly for the freeing of Jerusalem.

"Simeon's Song": message for the first Sunday of the new year, Mark Nicholas
Luke Chapter 2 v 21-35
Our theme for Advent 2016 is "Songs of Joy, Songs of Deliverance".
For the first Sunday of 2017, we look at the song of Simeon, who having been promised he would not die until he had seen the Lord's promised Messiah, meets Mary and Joseph as they enter the temple with their newborn son.
"God, you can now release your servant;
release me in peace as you promised.
With my own eyes I’ve seen your salvation;
it’s now out in the open for everyone to see:
A God-revealing light to the non-Jewish nations,
and of glory for your people Israel."

"Zechariah's Song": message for the Third Sunday in Advent, Neil Watson
Luke Chapter 1 v 67-79
Our theme for Advent 2016 is "Songs of Joy, Songs of Deliverance".
For the third Sunday in Advent we look at Zechariah, father of John the Baptist, and his song of joy after the birth of his son.
“And you, my little son,
will be called the prophet of the Most High,
because you will prepare the way for the Lord.
You will tell his people how to find salvation
through forgiveness of their sins.
Because of God’s tender mercy,
the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us,
to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
and to guide us to the path of peace.”

"Mary's Song": message for the Second Sunday in Advent, Mark Nicholas
Luke Chapter 1 v 26-56
Our theme for Advent 2016 is "Songs of Joy, Songs of Deliverance".
For the second Sunday in Advent we look at Mary and her song of praise to God
“My heart praises the Lord; my soul is glad because of God my Savior,
for he has remembered me, his lowly servant!
From now on all people will call me happy, because of the great things the Mighty God has done for me.
His name is holy; from one generation to another he shows mercy to those who honor him.
He has stretched out his mighty arm and scattered the proud with all their plans.
He has brought down mighty kings from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away with empty hands.
He has kept the promise he made to our ancestors, and has come to the help of his servant Israel.
He has remembered to show mercy to Abrahamand to all his descendants forever!”

"Elizabeth's Song": message for the First Sunday in Advent, Mark Nicholas
Luke Chapter 1 v 1-25, 39-45
Our theme for Advent 2016 is "Songs of Joy, Songs of Deliverance". For the first Sunday in Advent we look at Elizabeth, mother of John the Baptist, and her song of joy on meeting her cousin, Mary.
When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby in her womb leaped. She was filled with the Holy Spirit, and sang out exuberantly,
You’re so blessed among women,
and the babe in your womb, also blessed!
And why am I so blessed that
the mother of my Lord visits me?
The moment the sound of your
greeting entered my ears,
The babe in my womb
skipped like a lamb for sheer joy.
Blessed woman, who believed what God said,
believed every word would come true!
